Loutraki

The port that usually welcomes ships or flying dolphins arriving from Skiathos, Volos, or Agios Konstantinos, to continue their journey to the port of Skopelos.

Here once stood Selinus, one of the three ancient cities of the island, founded possibly by the Chalkidians in the 8th century BC. Part of the walls from the classical period (5th-4th century BC) and parts of a building from the same era have been preserved. Additionally, tombstones, marble figurines, Hellenistic and Roman inscriptions, and graves are occasionally discovered in the foundations of houses. The most notable find from ancient Selinus is a marble statue of the goddess Athena, a replica of the famous gold and ivory statue by Phidias, which was discovered in 1865 and is now housed in the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.

To the southeast of the settlement, there are also remains of Roman Baths, from which the present-day Loutraki gets its name. Near the beach stands the Church of Saint Nicholas, the patron saint of sailors, built on the foundations of a 7th-century Byzantine church.
