Founded in 1999 by American Gloria Carr, the Skopelos Foundation for the Arts (SkopArt) aims to promote visual arts, performing arts, literature, and arts education, as well as learning through cultural exchanges. Guided by Greek history and culture, the foundation fosters artistic dialogue among Greek, American, and international artist communities. To date, it has hosted talented artists from the world over and has gathered a collection of about 500 items of 3-D and 2-D art through artists' donations. It also runs a children's program where sixth-grade students create tiles that are installed permanently on the wall of the Primary School, leaving their mark for the future.
Its largest annual event is the Skopelos International Film Festival for Youth, where around 100 children create short films, in one week, with the help of internationally recognized directors.
