Wine
Expressions such as "Peparethian wine" testify to the island's connection with winemaking since ancient times, back when Skopelos was called Peparethos. Amphorae found in Stafylos, Agnontas, and Panormos confirm this and link the island to wine from the Classical and Hellenistic periods. Centuries later, in the 1940s, the island was struck by a phylloxera epidemic, and viticulture nearly disappeared. However, today it seems to be steadily gaining ground in the island's cultivation practices.
